If feeling lost, take a pause

I was taking a nightly half-bath ritual when I realized I still hadn’t bought a new showerhead. I broke it about six months ago and still could not decide on a good one as a replacement. I quickly took a mental note to check my growing shopping list for things that needed replacement in this apartment: a showerhead, a teapot, and a mattress. The tea pot was a thing I didn’t want to discuss for I was afraid of stirring a feeling of regret in my decision-making. The mattress however was given away a couple of months ago because I got sick of the size difference it has from the Ikea bedframe I bought. I know Filipinos are generally smaller than the Swedish (or any Western people for that matter), but it didn’t cross my mind that it would also translate that their beds are longer. Uratex, the Philippines’ national mattress was short of 9.5 cm. However, reading the bad reviews of Ikea mattresses I was apprehensive to buy my mattress from the same brand, although my bedframe was great.

My patience in waiting for the right stuff to come my way was not as bad as I thought. Instead of a shower, I use the old-fashioned dipper and pale when taking a bath. When I gave up my old mattress, I was determined to try sleeping on hardwood and found out it was much cooler without a mattress during the excessive heat index of the summer. Also, my back isn’t as stiff anymore. Pouring hot water directly into a teacup is how I make tea without a teapot. It isn’t proper but that would do for now.

Acting slowly has probably presented me with an opportunity I would not have seen if I had rushed. It was cliche I just understand. The picture of Neo dodging the bullets in slow motion came to my mind. Maybe we could dodge the bullet if we do everything in slow motion. Postponing to buy stuff to wait for the perfect one we need. Chewing our food carefully to fuel our body better. Pause to see the grand scheme of things. Take a breath when feeling lost.
